I will be participating as a guest in a talk session for my alma mater’s exhibition: Tama Art University, Department of Information Design, Media Arts Course Graduation Exhibition “Me!”

We are hosting a casual talk session where guest artists from the Media Arts field, students, and visitors gather on a single rug to exchange thoughts and ideas freely.
🗓️ Sunday, February 8th
Part 1: 14:00–14:30 | Part 2: 15:00–15:30
Ryotaro Sato | Video Artist
Born in Hokkaido, 1999. Completed Graduate School of Film and New Media, Tokyo University of the Arts.
Triggered by the pandemic, Sato focused on video expression. By quoting “assets”—character data circulating on the internet—he creates improvisational video works that re-examine identity within contemporary network society.
Representative Works: Interchange (2022), Outlet (2025)
Ryo Hirano | Animation Artist / Manga Artist
Born in Saitama, 1988. Graduated from Tama Art University, Department of Information Design.
Spanning diverse media—including animation, illustration, manga, and knitted “Amigurumi” sculptures—Hirano connects everyday motifs across multiple contexts. He unfolds a pop, deep, and bizarre narrative world that blurs the boundaries between nations and living creatures.
Representative Works: Paradise (2014), KRASUE (2022)
Shu Yonezawa | Artist / Animator
Born in Tokyo, 1999. Graduated from Tama Art University, Department of Information Design, Media Arts Course.
Starting from the “Obake” (smear) technique used in animation in-betweening, Yonezawa depicts the physicality that emerges within continuity and the presence of “souls that might have existed there” created through drawing, exploring resonance with the viewer’s subconscious.
Akihiko Taniguchi | Media Artist
Associate Professor, Tama Art University, Department of Information Design, Media Arts Course.
Taniguchi presents works across various fields, including media art, net art, game art, performance, video, and sculpture.

We are pleased to announce the group exhibition “Phantom Dimension (幻次元)” at Kanda TETOKA. The first exhibition was held in 2024, sparked by artist Mayuko Omodaka’s curiosity to see ceramic works by artists she long admired for their two-dimensional expressions. For this second installment, she has invited even more artists she deeply respects to make this collaboration a reality. This exhibition features eight sets of artists, each with a firmly established style in line drawing, painting, animation, or sculpture. It is an exploration of all dimensions—from the first point and line to moving planes, and solid yet soft three-dimensional forms you can feel.
January 31 (Sat) – February 22 (Sun), 2026

The official website of Ryo Hirano has been renewed!
A mascot pet named “Sūnya” now resides on the site, haunting it in the friendliest way possible.
Sūnya can remember visitors’ names, learn new words, and even mumble to themselves using the things you’ve taught them.
Please stop by and make friends with this digital spirit!

The name is Sūnya.
There are still many projects and “WORKS” I haven’t been able to post yet, so I plan to gradually enrich the content.
I also aim to update the DIARY as frequently as possible. I’d be very happy if you could drop by every once in a while to see what’s new.

Ryo Hirano has contributed to Zukanfu~Zasshi “Culture and Biology” Vol. 02, a media platform that explores and cultivates the intersection of “culture,” the human activities of our modern age, and “biology,” the pursuit of understanding the essence of life.
The theme of “Culture and Biology” Vol. 02 is “Character” and “Decay.”
Hirano participated in a project to create new “characters” based on a lecture by researcher Kenji Suetsugu.
Dr. Suetsugu studies mycoheterotrophic plants—plants that have abandoned photosynthesis!
It was an exciting experience to design characters while listening to his fascinating insights!
The other features in this issue are also incredibly enjoyable, so be sure to give them a read!

After moving from Tokyo to Nagano, I started attending knitting classes during the long, cold winter.
I found it exciting to bring strange creatures to life in the real world through crocheting.
I became so absorbed in knitting during breaks, while traveling, and while waiting for someone.
Before I knew it, many creatures had been born, so I decided to showcase them under the title “YARN FOREST.”
*YARN FOREST*
YARN FOREST is a small forest that no one can ever reach.
It is home to mysterious creatures who live together, sharing joy, feeling jealousy, and embracing solitude.
Each one is part of an original amigurumi series, presented with its own small story.
There will also be original amigurumi and sketches of the creatures available for purchase.
