YARN FOREST: New friends 🧶✨

From October 9 to 12, I’ll be holding my amigurumi exhibition, “YARN FOREST 2026,” at HACHIMISE!
Along with the pieces previously exhibited in Osaka, a few new friends will be joining the lineup.

I usually start with a rough sketch, and then figure out what kind of forest inhabitant they are as I crochet. I gradually build them up while imagining their personality, what they might like, and so on. For the “YARN FOREST” series, I always try my best to make them stand on their own. Miraculously, despite having long legs, this little one manages to stand on two feet. Incredible balance! (Though a gentle touch will knock them right over, so hopefully they stay standing throughout the exhibition…!). They’re actually quite big.

This is a sketch for one of the new residents. I keep doodling, aiming to create a creature shape you don’t see very often. Once I actually start crocheting, there’s a bit of improvisation—sometimes giving up because it’s way too hard, and eventually settling into a good spot.
Even if I start crocheting thinking, “It’ll be about this size,” the dimensions keep changing along the way, and often turn out huge before I know it. I still have a long way to go when it comes to measuring and calculating crochet math!

Since I work on these bit by bit between my client work, I can’t make a huge number of them, but this will be the first time showing many of these pieces in Tokyo. I’d love for you to come visit!
When I’m at the venue, I’m also planning to do live improvised drawings of the forest residents, just like usual.

If you find a favorite, I’d be so happy if you brought them home with you!
